In Opatija, winter and Christmas are usually associated with snow and inland areas, but the elegant Opatija Riviera offers a very special atmosphere: Christmas lights here are surrounded by palm trees and Mediterranean vegetation, and winter holidays are just a step from the sea. Opatija is ready to welcome in the festive period in an intimate, romantic mood. A special attraction is the ice skating rink located at the Open Air Theatre, which is magically transformed into a fantastic winter stage. With Christmas music in the background, surrounded by Christmas trees and wooden stands selling typical souvenirs, ice skating by the sea becomes a unique experience that everyone who tries it once will probably want to repeat the following year.. The festive atmosphere also provides the perfect setting for the Chocolate Festival, which traditionally takes place in Opatija in this period, offering visitors a variety of chocolate desserts and beverages, but also specially designed menus and original wellness treatments.

Each year in December, Ljubljana’s Festive Fair becomes the center of the city’s social life. The Festive Fair, set up in the immediate vicinity of a major open-air venue for festive events held daily throughout December, is well known for its vibrancy and cheerful atmosphere. Festively decorated green stalls, designed specially for the fair, sell a fine choice of products suitable for giving as gifts. For many years now, the Festive Fair, with its countless food and drink stalls offering mulled wine, tea, liqueurs, sausages and various grilled dishes, has been considered to be a major venue for what the locals refer to as “the merry December in Ljubljana Old Town” and see as a perfect opportunity to bump into friends and acquaintances whom they may not have seen for a while.

The Croatian capital, Zagreb, in 2015 and 2016. beat the likes of London, Vienna, Berlin, Stockholm, Strasbourg, Brussels, Manchester and Nürnberg to be voted the ‘Best European Christmas Market’ by travelers on portal European Best Destinations. The  central  stages, featuring  a diverse musical program, will be in Zagreb’s main square  of  Ban Josip Jelačić  and  the  nearby Zrinjevac Park. During  all December, Zagreb’s  most  beautiful  park  will  also feature  dance  events, while  traditional  delicacies as well as original gifts and local souvenirs typical of Zagreb  will  be on sale at numerous stands aligning the park promenade. The traditional Christmas Fair will take place during Advent in the streets surrounding the Jelačić Square.. All the visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the somewhat-forgotten specialties of Zagreb, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine, or buy unique souvenirs and Christmas decorations for their loved ones.Be a part of it on those Christmas markets 2017!

Kathy, what a beautiful website. What website builder did you use? I hope someday you will visit me and Martha in Boca Raton. As you may recall, I have now been to every Capital City in Europe.

If I lived in Boston, I would love to work for you. You are a very nice lady. We haven’t seen you since 2009 when we went to lunch at Anthony’s Pier 4.
