For the time being US passport holders are not permitted entry into Libya. Accordingly, we have suspended offering this tour till the embargo against Americans is lifted. We will renew the tour as soon as it is determined that Americans can once again visit Libya
 
In 2008 combine a visit to Tunisia with neighboring Libya. Closed for years, Libya has finally begun to renew ties with the outside world. The northern coast is pleasantly Mediterranean and Tripoli is as urbane as any other place in Africa. Rich in archaeological wonders, Libya is a treasure trove of fabulous archaeological sites such as Ghadames and Leptis Magnus.

Modern day Tunisia has been one of North Africa's most stable nations. As early as the 11th century BC, Tunisia began to turn her attention to Europe through commerce and trade. The Phoenicians were the first to colonize this country with its fabled city of Carthage, which was eventually obliterated by occupying Romans. Other visitors left their influence as well, including Byzantines, Arabs, Ottoman Turks, and lastly the French. The French made Tunisia a protectorate in 1883 and finally granted independence to Tunisia in 1957. Year round Tunisia beckons visitors with warm and sunny weather, superb beaches, a rich history and culture, and a friendly and hospitable people.

Day 1: TUNIS - MEDINA
Arrival at Tunis-Carthage airport where you will be warmly welcomed and assisted by your guide and transferred your 4 * Hotel. After check-in, we will make a visit to the Medina with its various and colorful souks. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: BARDO MUSEUM - CARTHAGE - SIDI BOU SAID - TUNIS
Km. 50.After breakfast we visit the world famous Bardo Museum with one of the richest collections of Roman Mosaics and marble statuary. Continue to Carthage with its extensive Punic and Roman ruins. Visit the Lavigerie Museum built on the hilltop of Byrsa nearby as well as the Roman Amphitheatre, the Baths of Antoninus, and the ancient Punic Harbours. Continue to charming village of Sidi Bou Said set up high on a cliff. This meeting place of the arts is renowned for its coffeehouses and delicately-wrought bird cages. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: TUNIS - DOUGGA - THUBURBO MAJUS - SOUSSE
Km. 250. After breakfast departure to Dougga. Visit ancient Thugga, one of the best preserved Roman towns in North Africa. Tour the Theatre, the Capitol, the terraced Baths, the Punic-Libyan mausoleum, the Temple of Coelestis and Saturn. Continue to Thuburbo Majus to view its imposing ruins which include some of the finest specimens of mosaic to be found in Tunisia. Visit the ancient Capitol, one of the most beautiful in Africa which towers above in the Forum and other temples. Departure for Sousse to visit the first garden harbor of Port El Kantaoui. Dinner and overnight in 4* hotel.

Day 4: SOUSSE - EL JEM - KAIROUAN
Km. 150. After breakfast departure to El Jem. Visit the impressive amphitheatre one of the best preserved Roman monuments in Tunisia. Continue to Kairouan to visit of the holiest city of Islam. Visit the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi, the Aghlabites basins and the souks famous for their workshops and carpet exhibition Dinner and overnight in 4* hotel.

Day 5: KAIROUAN - SBEITLA - GAFSA - TOZEUR
Km. 310. After breakfast visit the Great Mosque "Jemaa Okba Ibn Nefaa". Depart for Sbeitla to visit the ancient roman city of Sufetula. The extensive ruins include the triumphal arch, three nobly-proportioned temples, baths and the ruins of a theatre, Christian Basilicas and an ancient aqueduct. Continue to Tozeur via Gafsa, dinner and overnight in 4* hotel.

Day 6: TOZEUR - MOUNTAIN OASES - DOUZ
Km. 255. After breakfast depart for a visit to the mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza and Mides. Return to Tozeur for a visit of the town and its oases. Departure to Douz "the door of the desert." Cross Chott El Djerid the famous salt-lake. Arrival at Douz and an optional try at camel riding in the desert. Dinner and overnight in a 4* hotel.

Day 7: DOUZ - MATMATA - MEDENINE - TATAOUINE
Km. 220. After breakfast, departure for Matmata, with a short stop at Tamezret, a Berber village. Visit this ancient village with its famous troglodyte houses. Continue to Medenine, visit to Ghorfas with its stone or mud pigeonholes once used as store houses by the nomad tribes in the region. Depart for Tataouine, dinner and overnight in 3* hotel.

Day 8: TATAOUINE - SABRATHA - TRIPOLI
Km 120. After breakfast departure for the Libyan border. Lunch in restaurant at Sabratha a once fabled Roman city. After lunch a visit to Sabratha's museum. In the afternoon drive the capital of Tripoli basking on the shores of the Mediterranean. Visit the historic mosques, castle, and the lively medina. Dinner and overnight in 5* hotel.

Day 9: TRIPOLI - NALUT - GHADAMES
Km 650. After breakfast drive to Nalut, the most famous Berber village in Libya. Here you will have the opportunity to compare the differences between the Berber culture of Tunisia and Libya. Lunch in local restaurant. In the afternoon departure for Ghadames, the "Pearl of the Sahara Desert," so named when it became a popular getaway from Tripoli in the 1950's. Dinner and overnight in 3* hotel.

Day 10: GHADAMES
A full day sightseeing in the old oasis city of Ghadames considered the entrance of the Sahara desert. Lunch will be taken in a private house in the old city known for its wonderful architecture. In the afternoon sunset at the sand dunes. Dinner and overnight in a 3* hotel.

Day 11: GHADAMES - ARHABAT - TRIPOLI
Km 600. After breakfast departure to Arhabat, where you where you will dine in a typical troglodyte house on a local traditional lunch. In the afternoon continuing to Tripoli. Dinner and overnight in 5* hotel.

Day 12: TRIPOLI - LEPTIS MAGNA - TRIPOLI
Km 220 After breakfast drive to the Roman city of Leptis Magna one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the Mediterranean founded by the Phoenicians in the first millennium BC. The Romans arrived about 455 BC after the third Punic War. Included in the visit to this massive site with its spectacular architecture is a visit to the excellent museum. Lunch at the site. In the afternoon driving back to Tripoli. Dinner and night at the hotel.

Day 13: TRIPOLI
After breakfast embark on a full day tour of Tripoli including the old city, the souk, the arch of Marcus Aurelius and the excellent museum. Lunch in a local restaurant. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 14: TRIPOLI
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
