The Republic of Moldova is a small country, neighboring Romania to the West and Ukraine to the East. Originally part of Romania, Moldova was annexed by the Russian Empire in 1812 and then reunited with Romania in 1918. From 1945 to 1991 it was known as Moldavian SSR. On August 27, 1991 Moldova declared its independence. The Transnistria Republic lies within Moldova with a predominantly Slavic and Russian population. The capital city of Moldova is Chisinau (Kishinau). It is a significant administrative, political, economic, scientific, cultural and commercial center.

Day 1
Arrival to Chisinau and transfer to a 3* hotel. The city is beautifully surrounded by seven hills located in the Bac river valley. The first historic record of the name Chisinau dates back to July 17, 1436. The name derives from an old word meaning "spring, pump, pipe." We will take an orientation tour of "the city made of white stone" by foot with an English-speaking guide. Well-known architects and poets such as Bernardazzi, Sciusev, and Pushkin gave Chisinau a unique character. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 2
In the morning depart for Besalma and visit the Gagauzian National History and Ethnographic Museum founded in 1966. The Gazauzian community is Turkish origin. Local museum guides relate the history of this small nation in the south of Moldova. Moldova is world renown for its fine wine production and no visit would be complete without a visit to a Moldovan wine cellar. Milestii Mici is one of Moldova's most famous natural wine cellars. The wines stored at Milestii Mici are made of especially good harvest from 1968 to 1991. Wine tasting and dinner at Milestii Mici. Return to Chisinau for overnight.
Day 3
Full day trip to Tiraspol, Transnistria. Tiraspol is a town with deep historic roots. At the moment it is the administrative center of the self proclaimed Transnistria territory. This disputed territory has always been a battlefield among the major powers of the region. You visit buildings of Soviet style, the monument of Suvorov and the Central Plaza. Return to Chisinau for overnight.
Day 4
After breakfast, an excursion to the ancient city of Soroca and the Soroca Fortress, where the ruler of Moldova Stefan the Great built the wooden "pearl fortress" on the bank of the Dniester river to defend the country from the attacks of tartars in 1499. From 1543 to 1546 the fortress was rebuilt in stone and today stands as the only Moldovan medieval monument entirely preserved. It is unique in Eastern Europe.
Continue sightseeing to Old Orhei (Orchey), situated in a picturesque setting. You will have the opportunity to visit the most interesting archaeological site housing the ruins of two cities from14th to16th centuries. Tartars settled here on their expansion to Western Europe. Continue with a visit to the well-maintained Orthodox cave monastery called St. Maria Dormata which was built inside the cliffs by monks over the centuries. Enjoy a folklore show and dinner in Trebujeni and sample Moldavian dishes and wine. Return to Chisinau. Overnight.

Today's guided tour will show both the historic and the modern faces of Chisinau. There are many administrative buildings like the Presidency, the Parliament and the City Administration on Stephen the Great Boulevard.
