A fascinating one-week tour to this little-known country on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan was once a major stop on the Great Silk Route. You will visit the cosmopolitan booming capital, Baku, then travel up into the southern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains to the charming medieval town of Sheki and the amazing enclave Nakhchivan.

Day 1: Baku
Arrival Baku and transfer to the Diplomat Hotel. Your walking tour of Baku includes the medieval walled city "Icheri Sheher" with its narrow alleyways, mosque and Palace of the Shirvanshahs. Continue to visit the 12th century Maiden's Tower, the imposing mansions of the oil barons, built in the oil boom of 1870-1914 and Martyr's Alley with its superb views over the Bay of Baku. After lunch, trip to Absheron Peninsula visiting the Zoroastrian Fire Temple and Yanardagh (Burning Mountain). Dinner at Karvansaray restaurant with national music show program. Transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Baku - Nakhchivan
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Azerbaijan's isolated Azeri enclave Nakhchivan, wedged between Armenia and Iran. Known as the land of Noah, it shares no land border with Azerbaijan. Transfer to 4*Tabriz hotel. Visit the 12th century Momina Khatun Monument, Yusif Ibn Kuseyir Tomb, Carpet Museum - formerly Khan's House. After lunch, continue to Garabaghlar village in the Sharur region to see the 12th century monument and Solt Mine Hospital. Dinner. Transfer to hotel.
Day 3: Nakhchivan - Baku
After breakfast drive to Daridagh thermal spring in the Julfa region. After lunch visit Asabu Kahf cave located 12 km from Nakhchivan city. Travel back to Nakhchivan. Dinner and transfer to airport for your flight back to Baku. Transfer to hotel.
Day 4: Baku - Sheki
After breakfast departure to Caucasus Mountains in Northwestern Azerbaijan. The dry landscape around Baku gives way to a densely forested mountain area. Visit the town of Shemakha, Juma Mosque and Yeddi Gumbez. Lunch in a local restaurant. Then drive to Sheki and check in at Sheki Saray Hotel. Visit the village of Kish with the oldest church in the Caucasus dating from the first century. Dinner at Chalabikhan Restaurant. Return to your hotel.
Day 5: Sheki - Kish - Baku
Breakfast followed by a visit to the Toyal Summer Palace of the Sheki Khans with its magnificent frescoes and stained glass. Continue to Sheki Museum and Fortress. Drive to Baku. En route lunch at a typical restaurant. Dinner at Bah-Bah Club in Baku. Check in at Diplomat hotel.
Day 6: Baku - Guba - Baku
After breakfast drive to Guba, in the Northern part of Azerbaijan near the border with Russia. Lunch at a local café. Visit the Krasnaya Slobbada, the home of Jewish community in Azerbaijan. Drive back to Baku. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Departure
Transfer to airport for your flight back home.
